Keeping your eyelids clean after surgery

Day 1-3 post-surgery

During the first few days post-surgery, avoid washing your eyes. Instead, use sterile saline solution and clean cotton swabs to gently dab around the eyes if necessary. This helps to keep the area clean without disturbing the incisions.  

Day 5 onwards post-surgery

From day 5 onwards, you can begin to gently wash your eyes with water. Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and avoid getting soap directly into your eyes. Be very gentle to avoid disturbing the healing tissue.

2 weeks post-surgery

By two weeks post-surgery, you should be able to resume your normal washing routine, but continue to be gentle around the surgical area. At this stage, most of the swelling and bruising should have subsided.

To clean your eyes after blepharoplasty, follow these steps:

• Use a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser that is safe for sensitive skin
• Avoid direct contact with the incision
• Be careful not to rub or apply pressure to the surgical site
• Use clean, soft cloths or cotton swabs
• Gently dab the area with a clean cloth or cotton swab dipped in sterile saline solution
• Rinse with lukewarm water, avoiding hot water
• Pat dry gently with a clean towel, avoiding any rough motions
